Foundational TrainingThere are three quick lessons that all users should complete that are noted on

    the flowchart below.  They are:

T1 - Setting up a Lesson Observation in SMT - This is essential for any lesson observation.

T2 - Qualitative Comments Mode - How to add comments and recommendations to an observation.

T3 - Quantitative Data and Analysis Mode - The fundamentals of data collection and general introduction to

          the various data analysis features.

In just a short amount of time, you can learn to set up a lesson observation using the SeeMeTeach app.

Then, in 20 minutes, you will know how to complete an observation using the qualitative comments mode to

add comments and recommendations tagged to the timeline and/or video.

In just 20 more minutes, you will know about all the data and analysis features of the quantitative mode and can begin to collect and analyze data. Then, proceed to more training for more extensive data collection and analysis, which is presented to you one step at a time.

Intermediate Training – Any of these pieces of training can follow the Foundational Training

Training 4 - Learn About M Codes: Student Misbehaviors and Teacher Reactions (collected by

itself or at the same time as student or teacher action data.)

Training 5 - Wait-time Simple Method (a stand-alone data collection and not merged with another

data collection, whereas Training 9 connects Regular Wait-Time data collection along with teacher

  and student actions.)

Training 6 - Learn About S Codes: Student Actions, Engagement

Training 7 - Learn About T Codes: Teacher Actions

  Intermediate Capstone

Training 8 – Collecting and analyzing data using both Student Actions (S codes) and Teacher

  Actions (T codes)

While the quantitative mode involves more training, it is well worth the small amount of time used when considering the plethora of data and evidence obtained and the analyses produced, which can be used for self-reflection, feedback, coaching purposes, or program or grant evaluation.

Ultimately, to proceed forward on the preferred pathway for becoming an SMT user who can collect all types of data, the SMT Team has laid out a path that begins with Training 1 and continues to Training 9, which provides the teacher and observer with a complete palette of data and analyses that results in robust feedback and coaching based on evidence, which both the teacher and observer can use to determine and chart growth in teaching.

   Advanced Training

   Black Belt 1

Training 9 - How to collect wait time in conjunction with all the T, M, and S codes resulting in

an an extensive set of data with an analysis of the most critical factors of teacher and

student actions exhibited during a lesson.

   Black Belt 2

Training 10 - How to collect data regarding the teacher interactions with small groups and the

student-student interactions within small groups, which are the indicators of effective and

   equitable small group dynamics.

SMT Trainer - Validation of Data Collection and Analysis Skills for SMT Trainer Status: When your

SMT skill development reaches Black Belt Status 1, you may apply to take a practical exam to

become an SMT Trainer. This test uses SMT to code a lesson observation accurately, followed by

the data and analysis to provide evidence-based feedback.

Follow these training steps to develop or refine teacher observation and reflection skills, and in doing so, take a giant leap toward becoming a world-class teacher and classroom observer.

Get Started - Use this flowchart to plan a training pathway, and then below the graphic, you will find the training videos and cheat sheet links for each training.

Training Elements - Each training has a Video Overview with a Cheat Sheet that highlights important features and components of the training and guides the user when practicing the data collection or analysis skills. Each training from T3 on also has an Extended Practice option and an Extended Practice Key so the novice user can compare their data and analysis to that of an expert user to determine if more practice is warranted.
